Critics Slam Kim Kardashian for Setting 'Gross Beauty Standard' in Impossibly Tiny Corset Dress

Kim Kardashian arrived at the 2024 Met Gala ready to pose for photographers in a stunning display that had fans wondering how she could even breathe.
On Monday, May 6, Kardashian walked the red carpet while donning a Maison Margiela corset and a John Galliano cardigan.
The mother of four’s look appeared to fit in with this year’s gala theme, “The Garden of Time,” thanks to her silver metal skirt that featured flowers and leaves. The Met Gala's theme serves as a nod to the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, which this year is called Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

On X, fans slammed Kardashian's corseted look, which cinched her waist to an impossibly tiny size.
One person declared, "umm her poor intestines," while another pointed out, "She looks like she’s about to pass out," in a video of Kardashian posing for photos.
Meanwhile, another X user declared, "Literally so gross she can’t even close her mouth bc she can’t breathe. Such a gross beauty standard to set."

After the 2024 Met Gala's theme was revealed, some social media users suggested its focus on “the fragility and ephemerality of fashion” could be a subtle dig at Kardashian inspired by her 2022 Met Gala outfit. That year, she wore one of Marilyn Monroe’s famous dresses and sparked rumors that she had damaged the gown while wearing it.
Despite the theory that spread on TikTok earlier this year, some detractors said the thought of the event theme being a nod to Kardashian’s 2022 outfit choice was “such a stretch."
