Kate Middleton and Prince William may put on a brave face for the public, but, privately, they are reportedly struggling to cope the princess's cancer diagnosis

According to the couple's designer friend Amaia Arrieta, who has been dressing the Wales family for more than a decade, Will and Kate are currently having a difficult time dealing with the news. “I’m heartbroken at the moment," Arrieta said while expressing her concern to The Telegraph on Thursday. "I think they are going through hell.”

She added, “I hope they will be back. It’s really personal.”

Earlier this week, Will gave a rare update when asked about his wife's health during a surprise walkabout following his visit to the charity James's Place Newcastle. "Do you mind if I ask how your wife and children are?" a royal fan asked the Prince of Wales, to which he replied: "We're all doing well, thank you."

"And obviously Catherine?" the woman continued. Will answered again, "We're all doing well."

Back in March, Middleton announced that she was diagnosed with cancer after undergoing planned abdominal surgery at the beginning of the year. In a speech she wrote herself, the mom of three revealed that she was in the "early stages" of preventative chemotherapy treatment. "In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present," she said in an emotional video. "My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I’m now in the early stages of that treatment."

She continued, "This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that’s appropriate for them and to reassure them that I’m going to be okay. As I’ve said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body, and spirits."
